Why we exist
Most providers do not fail because they stopped caring. They fail because no one ever walked them through what the work actually requires — the rules, the records, the staffing, the house itself, and the weight of being responsible for another person's day-to-day life.
That gap is where people get hurt. A missed training, a policy that exists on paper but not in practice, a home that was never set up to support the person living in it — these are not clerical problems. They become someone's Tuesday.
So we teach providers not only what compliance requires, but why it matters. Compliance is not simply about passing an inspection or meeting a regulation. It is about creating environments where people are respected, protected, supported, and given the opportunity to live meaningful lives in their communities.

What we believe
A provider is a trusted partner in someone's life, not simply a business or a service agency.
The strongest protection an individual can have is a prepared, organized, ethical provider.
A house is not a home until it fits the person who lives in it.
Living in a neighborhood is not the same as belonging to one.
Standards raise an entire community, not only the agency that meets them.
Six ways we strengthen the system of care
Education produces prepared providers. Prepared providers need certified staff and sound compliance. Sound agencies need real homes. And all of it exists to serve the people at the center.
Classes, mentorship, and step-by-step preparation for people entering the HCS program — from entity formation through the HHSC certification survey.
Our C³ credential tracks for direct support professionals, administrators, residential supervisors, compliance specialists, and care architects.
Ongoing review, survey readiness, and emergency correction support for agencies that want to find their own problems before HHSC does.
Through our partnership with Ready Real Estate, we help providers find, lease, or buy homes that suit both the program and the people who will live in them.
Structured pathways for owner operators and invested partners who want to enter the HCS space responsibly, with the standards set before the doors open.
Speaking up for dignity, independence, safety, and community belonging — and for the standards that make those more than words on a policy page.

Ready Real Estate Partnership
A provider can have flawless policies and still be stopped by the wrong property — a home in the wrong location, a layout that cannot support the people placed in it, or a lease signed before anyone asked what the program would require of it.
That is why Care & Connections Academy has partnered with Ready Real Estate. Our providers now get licensed real estate guidance from professionals who understand what a group home has to do — not just what it costs per square foot.
If you own one story residential property with at least 3+ bedrooms and want it used well, this is a long-term tenancy with a purpose behind it. We help you understand what the program expects of a home and connect you with prepared, vetted providers.
Currently serving DFW METROPLEX.Brokerage services provided by Ready Real Estate, LICENSE 799010.Property search guided by what actually matters: neighborhood, access to community life, transportation, bedroom count, and the realities of daily support.
Licensed representation through offers, leases, and negotiation — with the program's requirements on the table before anything is signed.
Walking the home against life safety, accessibility, and settings expectations, so the property is ready for the survey and ready for the person.
Connecting property owners who want stable, purposeful tenancy with providers who have been prepared to operate responsibly.
Lucy RichardsFounder · Care & Connections Academy
I dedicate my work to educating new and existing providers — helping them understand the HCS program, preparing them for the responsibilities of serving individuals, and encouraging them to establish organizations that are professional, organized, ethical, and committed to excellence.
My vision is to create more opportunities for appropriate housing and meaningful community participation for the special-needs community. I want providers to see themselves not simply as businesses or service agencies, but as trusted partners in people's lives. When we educate providers, strengthen organizations, develop quality housing, connect communities, and advocate for individuals, we create something much greater than a compliant program. We create a community built on dignity, opportunity, responsibility, and compassion.
That is the legacy I want to build: a stronger HCS community, better-prepared providers, quality homes, and a better future for the people we are here to serve.
How we work
If your plan, your timeline, or your budget will not work, we will say so before you spend money on it. Telling someone what they want to hear is not a service.
We build your capacity to run the agency yourself. You should finish knowing why each system exists, not only that a consultant once set it up for you.
Every recommendation we make is measured against one question: does this make life better and safer for the person receiving services?
Our guidance is tied to Texas HHSC requirements and the rules governing HCS providers — not to opinion, rumor, or what someone's cousin did in another state.
